Welcome to our ministry site, which is designed to offer religious resources and share thoughts on the scriptures. My name is Tom Smerk, and I started this sight shortly after I was ordained into the Christian ministry in 2003. In addition to hosting this site, I am also the General Manager for the Dulzura Community Church, where I also serve as Music Minister.
Speaking of music, I have a gospel CD available here: http://musician.tomsmerk.com/forthefaithful.html. “For The Faithful,” is a collection of twelve praise and worship songs, including four originals. The rest of the songs are popular church hymns from “a few years ago,” before all the modern music took over the worship service in the church. We sang some great timeless hymns back then, and I hope you will enjoy hearing some of them again. There are also four other of my CDs available from this web site and a sixth CD available below.
I have also entertained at several missions, churches and other venues in the Greater San Diego area, both as a single and also with the “Gospel Review Band” and also with “Rightside,” a Christian country gospel rock band. While I was with Rightside, we released “Living on the Rightside” on May 22, 2010. This is a great contemporary sounding CD, a mixture of Southern Gospel and Country Rock, and is available from the website RightsideBand.com.
Since I created this web site 13 years ago, I had no idea at the time what a roller-coaster ride my life would take. I have had to deal with arthritis, diabetes, carpal-tunnel surgery, nose surgery, and some severe back problems. I was able to beat the diabetes by losing 100 pounds, and my arthritis (both kinds) is under control with medication. The back is basically inoperable, at least not without several surgeries and several lengthy recoveries, so I am putting this health problem in God’s hands and hope to serve as a testimonial to God’s amazing healing available to us through faith.
I am still working every week as a professor for the San Diego Community College District where I have been employed since 1987. I also taught at Grossmont College from 1995 to 2015, and I write a monthly column for “CQ Amateur Radio” magazine where I am the International Editor. I also write occasional feature stories, product reviews, and cover news and events. Besides magazine writing, I am also working on four books which I hope to get published in the near future.
My background includes several years working as a professional musician and several sales and management positions. I have worked as a “Virtual Assistant” since 1977 where I help companies and businesses with their administrative needs. My specialties are writing, editing and proofreading, web design, software training troubleshooting, and educational consulting & course design.
In my spare time I enjoy using my ham radio for fun and for public service, and I practice my guitar as often as possible. I am hoping to also have more time to practice my tuba, which has been sadly neglected lately. I’m still enjoying the company of my dear wife Peggy as we now passed our 40th wedding anniversary and are looking forward to 40 more! We enjoy gong to casinos together, dining out, and taking trips and “mini-vacations.”
While I am still available for weddings, house blessings and banquets and assemblies, I seem to be spending more time with the music side of the ministry. If you would like to schedule a concert or workshop, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Now that you know my email address, please send me your comments and suggestions on this site – I am to please!
Until next time, don’t forget to put God first, live your life according to the Bible, and keep the faith!
